Huge Collection of 1960's Comics Donated to the Greater St. Louis Book Fair

February 27, 2010

People of a certain age all wish they still had their childhood comic books and baseball cards. Well someone in St. Louis who kept their precious reading material has donated more than 600 vintage comics in good condition to the Greater St. Louis Book Fair.

The items include titles from iconic publishers DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Vista Publications. A highlight of the collection is a copy of DC Comics' Fantastic Four # 4 titled "Meet Doctor Doom."

Also among the individual paper books are 34 issues of "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen" dating from 1962-1970; more than 30 editions of "Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos"; unusual DC issues such as "Fat Superboy" and "Unwanted Super Baby" and more than 50 "Action Comics."

Most comics will be sold in the "Rare and Collectible" cases at this year's Greater St. Louis Book Fair, April 29th - May 2nd at Macy's, West County Center. Especially valuable items will be sold by auction on opening night.

Volunteers are working hard to list all available comics on the Book Fair website. Interested collectors should check back often for regular updates.
